I instantly loved this Flathead when I first saw it at the Kent Custom Bike Show in 1984, enough so that I met up with Dirty Jeff back in London after the show to do a full feature on the bike. It was light and compact and had great attitude. Jeff was one cool dude with a lot of character, and then her expression is awesome, absolutely in the moment and wonderful.

The feature ended up in print as “Dirty Jeff's Flathead” in the December 1984 Easyriders. The text was written by the legendary Doctor Maz Harris (Kent Chapter / Hells Angels) who partnered with me for a couple of weeks as we did several stories around England that year.

If I could only find the message I received a few years ago from the son of Jeff’s girlfriend in this photo. (Maybe he’ll see this and refresh my memory by writing me at mike@lichterphoto.com with the rest of the story.)
