Our commercial photography business was started in 1978 in Boulder, Colorado. By 1982, we moved into the photo studio that we are still in and love. Our staff includes Michael, who shoots the majority of the work, Steve Temple, a Cal Poly San Luis Obispo graduate who has been a full time staff assistant since 1998, and Catherine Bowe, who makes sure we are headed in the right direction. We often have interns working in the studio and freelance assistants, stylists and production help is brought in as needed. Our work is equally divided between the studio and location, as well as people and product. With so much work out of state, much of the equipment is duplicated so that we are always packed and ready. Without having to tear down a lit studio set, or touching our 15,000+ watt seconds of lighting power dedicated to the studio, we can leave for the airport on a couple of hours notice with 10,000 Watt seconds of flash power, a twelve foot wide overhead softbox and all the needed accessories. As to the formats that we shoot regularly, they include (2) Nikon D2x pro digitals and a Hasselblad H1D paired with an Imacon 22 megapixel large format digital. When called for, we run the large digital back on a Fuji GX 6x8 system. There is a full battery of lenses for each system to be ready to deal with any needs that come up. While large metro city based photographers often rent equipment, living in the provinces has necessitated owning everything outright, right to some highly specialized lenses and accessories (like a gyro-stabilizer.)
