Spirits run high in the Pentagon parking lot on Memorial Day. Tens of thousands of motorcycles parade through the streets of DC, spectators cheering the entire way, all the way to the Wall. By the time we arrived there the mood had become somber. Rain heightened everyone’s feelings but they were strong, regardless. You could see them in the way people walked, the way they talked, in their faces and in their every gesture.
